Please note: Some people find Dr. Flint’s work after having exhausted many traditional routes of psychotherapy and/or having given up on institutional care. Whilst the self-help information on this website is empowering and can help take back control of many issues, when it comes to serious mental health issues, there is only so much one can do alone. Please ask yourself if self-help has become self-hindering when it comes to recognizing blind-spots and unknown barriers to treatment.

If you are currently suffering immediate distress, overwhelm or issues such as intrusive thoughts or symptoms of anxiety etc, please seek help from a licensed, trauma informed therapist. Digital information online or AI chat bots cannot fully replace the human touch of speaking out loud and sharing problems with a friendly specialist (either in person or video call) whether they are trained in this method or a different therapeutic model.
This being said, it’s probable that you won’t be in front of a professional immediately, even whilst waiting in urgent care. So in the meantime, before your appointment, it may be helpful to try out the technique that Dr. Flint worked with called the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT, otherwise known as Tapping). EFT was one of the initial starting points for the Process Healing Method, so it’s an excellent technique to begin with.
The Emotional Freedom Technique is a very quick and effective way to neutralize ‘Emotional Charge’. There are many videos online showing how to use it safely on your own. There is also the option of reading the kindle version of Dr. Flint’s very short guide book titled Emotional Freedom (1999) and following the instructions there. A free handy ‘Quick User Guide’ to accompany the info in Emotional Freedom is available through this link. Again, it’s advisable to also seek professional help for the same reasons stated above, however EFT is an effective way to settle the nervous system when no other help is currently immediately available.
